Our bodies do not only have blood but also water. Adult men have about 60% of water in their body. Adult women have about 55% of water in their body, manly because women have more fat than men on the body. "According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%." (The Water in You)
Drinking water helps:
- Forming saliva to help break down the food that you are chewing. Making it easier for digestion.
- Helps regulate body temperature, like sweating.
- Drinking water also helps with how much you eat.
- Water helps deliver oxygen through your body.
- Water also helps lessen the chance of getting a kidney stone *.
- Helps blood cells grow and reproduce
Water does many other things to help your body survive. *Calcium and minerals will build up in your urine causing your body to have a hard time filtering out soon they form crystals that make those painful kidney stones. However, drinking water can help prevent the formation of kidney stones.
How much water should you consume a day?
Depending on your size and weight you should drink a half an ounce for each pound you weigh. Also the different climates that you live in have an effect on how much water you should consume each day. If you live in a hot climate you should drink more water to replace what you are sweating , to keep hydrated.
